Pokemon Go came out the 6th of July 2016 and everyone you know is just probably playing it. More than that every website is writing about it. Every news station is broadcasting about it, and everyone is posting cute photos of Pokemon on social media.

But how? and why? for the uninitiated Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game make by Niantic. these are the same people who launch ingress in 2012. Ingress is also an augmented reality game that uses google maps data. So in ingress real life location turn into portals that players can then claim and defend for their team.

It’s pretty complicated to play, but the idea clearly has a lot of  long sustainability. in 2015 ingress had seven (7) million players. The success of ingress  laid the groundwork for collaboration between the Pokemon company and the Niantic.

Pokemon Go uses the same framework has ingress, it takes your real geographic location and turns it into a Pokemon dream world. The smallest landmarks like that weird mirror that you walk bu every day become an important destination in the app and Pokemon are theoretically all around you. So let us go back to the beginning.

Pokemon Go – How To Get Started

Your Pokemon journey starts by downloading the app on IOS or Android. Right now it is out in the USA, Australia, and New Zeland. The rest of the world will have to wait…………. server overloads have delayed the game’s launch in other location unlesss if you have an IOS device you can easily which between countries and download the app. That is a testament to the game massive popularity.

You can either log in through Google or through a Pokemon trainer club account, as of a few days of the games launch that was service for the Pokemon trainer account has been down pretty much recently. There was a little kerfuffle regarding how much of your information Niantic could access via your Google account. It turns out there was an error that said they had permissions for all of the information this was not so and it has been corrected so theoretically hopefully within a couple of weeks the games launch all of the login problems will be eradicated so you could keep hunting your radicates 🙂

Passing that hurdle, Pokemon Go has some elements of the original Pokemon games that we know that we know and love but not all of them right now you can’t trade Pokemon with friends or use ur Pokemon’s to duel with those friends or to duel with while Pokemon, but you can walk around and catch while Pokemon where ever you are.

You’ll see roads and landmarks representing the app just like they appear in real life. When you see a little shuffling tuft of grass, that means a Pokemon is near buy . There also meters that show silhouettes of nearby Pokemon.

Tap on a Pokemon and you will find yourself in the most challenging mini-game of all time, flinging poke balls at that sucker until you catch it which can be pretty hard to aim.

Throwing a poke ball means sweeping up on your screen until the poke ball land in the ring around the Pokemon and its caught. Yay! so now you have a Pokemon you can name it, you can feed it candy and star dust to increase its power level , you can also evolve it, and just like in the original games you can duke it out with other players at Pokemon Jim’s. You can find the nearest Jim easily on the map it is that huge tower that usually has that Pokemon on top dominating the skyline.

Each Jim is claimed by a team which has the most wins at that location. You can’t choose a team until your level five (5) so you can’t fight at Jim until you are level five (5) either. Once you do reach level five though you can fight against a player on the opposing team to strengthens your team’s positions at the Jim.

Battling means tapping an enemy to attack and swiping to dodge. The Pokemon with the higher attack power will win but you do actually have to try and dodge to attacks if you let yourself get beaten up too much you will lose that battle even if your Pokemon is more powerful.

Pokemon Go Lure, Stardust, and Candy

You can make you Pokemon stronger using in-game items like that candy I mention earlier candy and stardust are items you get from catching Pokemon. Other items you can buy in the game with poke coins.

Let us talk about micro-transactions you can buy poke coins for cold hard cash or get them for winning local Jim battles. Spending poke coins will get you loads of items like incense which you can drop on yourself to crack more Pokemon to your local within a thirty (30) minute period. Lure are almost the same thing but they can be attached to poke stops for the same.If you attach a poke lure to a stop you will probably see everyone else come running your direction too.

Poke stops are like Jim and that they are located at landmarks when you get close enough to one you can tap and swipe it to see a bunch of lutes falls out that make Pokemon Go seems difficult but it is actually easy to play. Maybe because of that simplicity it has come an instant cultural phenomenon. Even people who weren’t originally Pokemon fans are playing it. the mysterious factor is obvious I mean even twenty to thirty something has been probably waiting their whole life to be able to catch Pokemon in real life.

But even if you weren’t a part of the Pokemon craze you definitely could miss that it was happening so that means this the first time Pokemon as been really truly accessible on a device a device that everyone owns. And it is hyper-visible not just on social media where people are posting a picture of their rat ta ta in their burritos but also in real life out in the world where people are bumping into each other in the park because somebody just found a malaise. That’s pretty much there is to Pokemon Go so far. Until then see you at the Jim.
